The San Rafael Rock Quarry has proudly served the Marin County community and the State of California for over 100 years. Throughout its history, the Quarry has been a vital resource for our local community. In 1986, Bill Dutra purchased the Quarry, which the Dutra family owned and operated until 2024, when it was purchased by CRH.

Operating in Marin County for over 100 years, we are the only state-designated resource and waterfront operation in Northern California that can transport materials via barge to specific project destinations.
The San Rafael Rock Quarry (SRRQ) is one of Northern California’s most valuable deposits of natural rock and a critical resource that serves municipalities around the greater Bay Area. In operation since the 1870s, SRRQ provides riprap for Delta levees, shoreline protection from coastal erosion, and emergency flood protection. The site also supplies materials such as gravel, asphalt concrete, and sand for local roads and other public works.
